MASSIVE NIGHT AT HUNTS COUNTY TO FINISH THE ELPHICKS CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

A huge evening of finals finished two months of matches and complete the biggest internal championships that Hunts County Squash Club have ever staged. For the first time, Elphicks of Huntingdon sponsored the championships and this helped elevate the event with tournament shirts for every entrant and superb trophies.

Beginning at the end of September, the start of the squash season, over 230 matches across 10 different categories finished with the superb ‘Finals Night’. With both squash and racketball being contested in both singles and doubles events, nearly every member was involved in the championships either as a player of spectator.

The two biggest titles went to Lizzie Kilsby (Women’s Open) and Diego Pita (Mixed Open Champion). Lizzie defeated the club’s top female junior, Michella Pita, with experience seeing her through to a 3-0 victory. The Mixed Open final saw the two best junior players in Cambridgeshire, Mumin Bilen and Diego Pita, battle for the top title. A superb match befitting of a final ended in a 3-1 victory to Diego, with each game separated by only a few points.

Other notable winners were club chairman Sean Brodrick who became triple doubles champion (Open, Mixed & Racketball Doubles) and Danny Caulkett who won the legendary Club Handicap title.

Jon Pittams, Elphicks Sales Director and club member, said “We’re honoured to support such a great club, and truly superb event. I’ve been involved here since I was a boy from coaching, to member, to team player, and it has been a pleasure to give a little back to a facility that has given both me & this community so much!”
