2024 INSTANTHOME CAMBRIDGESHIRE JUNIOR COUNTY CLOSED CHAMPIONSHIPS

 A huge weekend of squash unfolded at Hunts County Squash Club to open the 2024-25 season for the junior squash players of Cambridgeshire. Two full days of competition brought players from the age of eight to eighteen, from clubs across the county, to contest for the top titles in local squash. 

   For the second year in a row the championships were generously supported by title sponsors InstantHome, enabling The Sports Academy to create an event on par with senior county championships for the aspiring junior players. The youngsters didn’t disappoint, with two days of high quality squash and great sporting spirit both on and off the court. 

    Saturday’s play involved the Mixed Under 9, Girls and Mixed Under 13, and Mixed Under 17 categories. Results after a hard day of squash: 

Mixed U9; Runner-Up – Toby Setchell (Hunts County SC). Champion – Charles Morris (Swavesey SC).  

Girls U13: Runner-Up – Judi Alswaifi (City of Peterborough SC). Champion – Hailey Tse (Sawston SC).  

Mixed U13: Runner-Up – Joe McKinney (King’s College School). Champion – Samuel Goodger (Ely SC). 

Mixed U17: Runner-Up – Isaac Broughton (Comberton SC). Champion – Connor Harmer (Comberton SC). 

    Sunday’s play was equally intense, with battles for another five titles in the Girls and Mixed Under 11, Girls and Mixed Under 15, and Mixed Under 19 categories.  

Girls U11: Runner-Up – Beatrice Milner (Hunts County SC). Champion – Judi Alswaifi (City of Peterborough SC) 

Mixed U11; Runner-Up – Zeke Morris (Swavesey SC). Champion – Sammy Walsh (Hunts County SC).  

Girls U15: Champion – Hattie McNeill (Comberton SC).  

Mixed U15: Runner-Up – Samuel Goodger (Ely SC). Champion – Kieran Weston-Favell (St.Ivo SC). 

Mixed U19: Runner-Up – Isaac Broughton (Comberton SC). Champion – Connor Harmer (Comberton SC). 

    A superb weekend of squash will lead into loads of activity for the juniors. Initiatives throughout the season including the Junior Development Series, new Cambs’ Junior League and the England Squash Intercounty Championships all great opportunities for the players.
